Former US Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld has died at the age of 88, reports Reuters, citing a statement from his family.
He died surrounded by family shortly before his 89th birthday in Taos, New Mexico. The causes of death of the ex-head of the Pentagon are not reported.
Donald Rumsfeld served as Secretary of Defense twice: during the administration of Gerald Ford in 1975-1977, and in 2001-2006 during the administration of George W. Bush. Under his leadership, the United States carried out the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq.
On April 19, former US Vice President Walter Mondale died. The cause of death of the politician has not yet been specified.
